چکیده

Numerous papillomas and two malignant tumors were elicited in 101 strain mice treated once weekly with applications of acetone extracts of latices of ten species of Euphorbia after a single dose of DMBA in acetone. Of the species tested E. ti~ucalli was the most potent. Three papillomas were seen in 40 mice treated with DMBA only and three among 100 mice treated with latices only. These results indicate the presence of potent tumor-promoting agents in the latices. With one exception, there was good correlation between degree of epidermal hyperplasia and tumor-promoting effect.

Comparison of cysteine proteases of four laticiferous plants and characterization of Euphorbia nivulia Buch.-Ham. latex glycosylated cysteine peptidase

Investigations have been carried out on proteolytic activities of four laticiferous plants, viz. Calotropis procera (Ait.) R. Br. (Ruie), Carica papaya Linn. (Papaya), Euphorbia nivulia Buch.-Ham. (Sabar) and Ficus carica Linn. (Anjir) using Hammerstein grade casein and skimmed milk powder. Ratio of milk clotting to proteolytic activity was highest in the latex sample of C. papaya followed by F...

Investigating the rheological properties of native plant latex.

Plant latex, the source of natural rubber, has been of interest to mankind for millennia, with much of the research on its rheological (flow) properties focused towards industrial application. However, little is known regarding the rheology of the native material as produced by the plant, a key factor in determining latex's biological functions. In this study, we outline a method for rheologica...

Comparative Study on Plant Latex Particles and Latex Coagulation in Ficus benjamina, Campanula glomerata and Three Euphorbia species

Among latex-producing plants, mainly the latex of Hevea brasiliensis has been studied in detail so far, while comprehensive comparative studies of latex coagulation mechanisms among the more than 20,000 latex-bearing plant species are lacking. In order to give new insights into the potential variety of coagulation mechanisms, the untreated natural latices of five latex-bearing plants from the f...

Preliminary study on soil microbiota degrading plant latices and their protease and lipase enzymes

The present study aimed to isolate soil microorganisms-degrading plant latices and to screen their capablilities of producing protease and lipase. Many bacterial and fungal strains of mesophilic, thermotolerant or thermophilic nature were able to grow on sugar-free medium amended with crude latex of either Euphorbia pulcherrima, Ficus elastica or F. nitida and incubated at 25oC, 36oC or 45oC. T...

Euphorbia kansui Attenuates Insulin Resistance in Obese Human Subjects and High-Fat Diet-Induced Obese Mice

Background Obesity is a main cause of insulin resistance (IR), metabolic syndrome, and fatty liver diseases. This study evaluated Euphorbia kansui radix (Euphorbia) as a potential treatment option for obesity and obesity-induced IR in obese human and high-fat diet- (HFD-) induced obese mice. Methods In the human study, we analyzed the body weight change of 14 patients who took a single dose o...
